So what happens? high and mighty music "business " see what kids are buying, the dollar signs go up in their eyes like a Tex Avery cartoon, there's a mad scramble to the door to find everything that sounds even remotely like these bands, and they get snapped up . So in a few years ago, what was once "alternative" music is now the norm. And none of it sounds as good as those who started it. really sad part is that so many of these bands could actually be decent, but they were never given time to develop.
Any band that starts to sound like who they influenced. They grow, mutate into their stuff. But if the label is grabbing everyone wears flannel shirts as soon as you strap on that guitar, where there is room for movement? And not only the execs fault. bands are just as guilty. They see this happening, and think: "Ah, there we go, let me get some of that!" It is precisely the wrong reason to be in a band. If all you want is money and fame, then, please stay in the garage and keep the door closed. Granted, sometimes, once in a blue moon, along comes a band that has that spark from the start. Then gently follow them on their journey.
Take a band like U2. If you listen to "Get On Your Boots", and then go back and compare it with the "Gloria", it is almost unbelievable that the same band. But that's all there. And as it was a fun ride. But for the most part, you must wait until the 10-year cycle to get a new one. It seems that it takes so long to drain completely dry style, so you can be kicked to the new group pushing their way in the door. But the damage was done.
